The First Carers Parliament in Scotland


On 1st October 2012, the first Carers Parliament was held in Scotland with 170 carers from across Scotland participating in the debates and workshops.

A Carers Survey which received 1000 responses became a program of themes for discussion for a debate in the Scottish Parliament around services and support for carers.   There was a Q&A Session by representatives from local and national government and health bodies as well as workshops on the day.

The Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing, Alex Neil MSP, opened the Carers Parliament, and Colin Williams Chair of Carers of West Dunbartonshire (a network partner of the Carers Trust) summed up the debate in the morning session.
